Pod or Print On Demand is when you design merchandise, upload it to a Pod site like Redbubble or Amazon and the company handles all the shipping, marketing and customer complaints, It’s great because you can make money designing and selling merch without any of the hassle of deliveries or customer complaints and best of all it’s completely passive!

Getting Started and Applying

First of all head over to

https://merch.amazon.com/ and https://www.redbubble.com/ for Redbuble it’s simple just create and account. For Merch, you need to apply here’s a thread on Reddit to help you find the lay of the land! https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonMerch/comments/7c3bif/official_faq_ramazonmerch/

In terms of traffic and sales, you’re not really going to beat these two sites and unless you’ve got a niche better suited to something like Etsy it’s probably no beuno but here are some other sites you can try if you want to go all out!

  • Etsy
  • SpreadShirt
  • Teepublic
  • Society6
  • Design by Humans
  • Cafepress
  • Sunfrog
  • Threadless

So after you’ve got an account you can start uploading right away. But first well you need to design something. There are 3 ways you can go here Image, Image with Text, Just Text. I’d suggest experimenting with what works best for you and trying all three. If you already have some graphic design skills you could try and lean more towards images.

In terms of apps you can use for designing I’ll list a few here

  • Photoshop
  • Canva
  • GIMP
  • PhotoPea

In terms of designs, the world is your oyster, but I’d suggest something niche with a high level of keyword research the more niche it is the better. Use the long tail method which means nicher the better!

Research and Niches

In terms of keyword research here are your options

  • Keywordspro
  • Merchantwords
  • Searching Amazon
  • Google Keywords

Uploading and Seo

By now you should have your designs ready and your keyword research ready so all that is left to do is upload head over to Redbubble and Amazon

For marketing, Amazon has it’s own inhouse ads systems which are definitely useful but is a skill to learn in itself https://advertising.amazon.com/ aside from that you can use more traditional forms of marketing

  • Organic social media marketing
  • Twitter Ads
  • Facebook Ads
  • Instagram Ads
  • Advertising on Reddit

In terms of advertising, you really want to be hitting your target audience as hard as possible it’s a complete waste of money if you’re getting eyes on your merchandise but eyes that don’t buy!
